The company was founded in 1945. It remains a family business, started by the grandfather of the current owners. Sixty years later, Barbara and Jaume Mesquida Mora, fourth generation of winemakers, took over the family business.
Located in the town of Porreres, the bodega has always grown around the historic building known as the "celler vell". Jaume Mesquida Mallorca preserves the layout of yesteryear, yet combines the new facilities and infrastructures that enable them to work with temperature control and the demands of the winemaking today.
The old cement tanks that were used to make wine have been transformed into a wine cellar. Recent works have given the cellar vell the capacity to bring the wine to its maturation in a completely chilled environment.
Barbara and Jaume are innovative and want to stay as the pioneers of Majorcan wine and this is reflected in the development of their products.
Jaume Mesquida wineries are designed primarily to ensure that each winery is an ecosystem rich and complex enough so that it can recover and protect itself. The brother and sister are well aware that there are ways to reduce the impact on the environment. Their concept includes to completely eliminate the use of pesticides and fertilizers, instead using homeopathic alternatives, taking advantage of the herbs that grow naturally around the vineyards and bring vitality to the land and rationalizing the use of machinery and tractors to minimize impact on the earth. The wineries are developing and implementing all these methods and are contributing to the agriculture of tomorrow to make the future a land full of energy and vitality.
The Jaume Mesquida winery strives not only to produce exceptional wines but also spread the culture of wine in the island. To this end the winery organizes each year a variety of activities called 'Culture, Terra i Vi' that takes place in the winery of Porreres. Activities include sharing art, literature, theatre and music related to the world and the history of wine. It also organizes the conference 'Art i vi' that is held once a year in Palma and allows local artists to experiment with art and wine boxes, promoting young artists from Mallorca.

Aurin & Partner board members visited the premises and the warehouse. During the interview, Barbara Mesquida Mora explains: "the land of Mallorca is loosing vitality. We opted for biodynamic farming and we are the first winery in the Balearic Islands to do it. We want to respect the biodiversity we have in our vineyards and it is essential for us to see the butterflies, bees, snails, rabbits living and developing on our land as they are not enemies but live in harmony with the vines. " Barbara underlines the importance of respecting the soil fertility, and says "the no-tillage" contributes to soil health and Jaume Mesquida wineries are considering to use horses work as in past times. Barbara explains, "the tread of a horse is not the same as that of a tractor, the horse also provides manure. Let's get a better soil fertility, achieve greater diversity of microorganisms, more organic matter, and this will help wines to become get more complex, richer and healthier".
